Tulane’s Resident Director in Madrid
supports students on site. When students arrive, they are
advised on choosing from hundreds of courses in a wide variety
of fields, taken at University academic departments and the
affiliated Universidades Reunidas Americanas program . All of
your courses, grades, and credits travel back
with you to Tulane when you participate in a TSAP.
Madrid itself offers students the rich
diversity and cultural interest of a cosmopolitan European
capital with a population of nearly five million. It is
located at an altitude of 2,200 feet and on a clear day, the
Sierra de Guardarrama is visible from the university campus.
As the transportation hub of Spain, Madrid is also an
excellent base for travel in-country and beyond.
When Can I Go?
The program Madrid starts with a one-month
intensive Spanish language program in the city of Leon.
Because of the Spanish semester schedule, students at the
Universidad Complutense de Madrid study for the whole academic
year:

Where Do I Live?
On the language program in Leon, you will live with
Spanish families, the ideal place to immerse
yourself in Spanish language and culture. Once in Madrid, you
will live with Spanish roommates, selecting
from a choice of student residence halls located around the
various universities in the city.
What Are The Costs?
Studying abroad is affordable. Costs vary by
program and student lifestyle. Because students on TSAPs pay
Tulane University tuition for their studies abroad, most
Tulane and federal financial aid applies. Below is an average
of the per-semester cost for the 2005-06 year
to help you with your budgeting (based on the conversion rate
$1.25 = 1 Euro):

has yet to be determined. Students are billed through Tulane
for tuition and the Academic Support Service Fee, as well as
the required International Evacuation Insurance. Students on
the TSAP in Spain are also billed by Tulane for the $900
activity fee, housing fees in Leon, and Madrid housing
deposits (deposit amount varies by housing choice). Students
pay all other costs directly as they occur.
* Living costs vary widely and include housing, meals,
books, round-trip airfare from New Orleans, health and
evacuation insurance, passport, visa, and personal expenses.
They do not include vacation travel.
