Study in Japan
The Basics.
Study in the cultural heart of Japan at Kansai Gaidai
University. The University’s central location in Hirakata city
offers you the opportunity to deepen your interests in Asian
studies while you explore the nearby cities of Osaka and
Kyoto. Aside from Japanese language classes, courses on this
Tulane Study Abroad Program (TSAP) are taught in English:

Students on the TSAP in Japan program enroll
directly at Kansai Gaidai University, a private university
with approximately 13,000 students. The university has been
welcoming students from the US for decades and offers a unique
two-way exchange community. Courses, grades, and credits
travel back with you to Tulane when you participate in a TSAP.

Where Will I Live?
Student housing can be arranged either with a
“homestay” family or in an on-campus dormitory. In the
homestay program, students eat all meals
(except lunch during the school week) with their host family.
In the dormitories, students are expected to
prepare their own meals in the fully equipped kitchens or eat
at university cafeterias or local restaurants. Students make
their housing arrangements with Kansai Gaidai University.
What are the costs?
Studying abroad is affordable. Costs vary by
program and student lifestyle. Because students on TSAPs pay
Tulane University tuition for their studies abroad, most
Tulane and federal financial aid applies. Below is an average
of the per-semester cost for the 2005-06 year
to help you with your budgeting:

Academic Support Service Fee for all programs. They pay all
other costs directly as they occur.
*Living costs vary widely and include housing,
meals, books, round-trip airfare from New Orleans, health
insurance, passport, visa, and personal expenses. They do not
