The Basics..

Experience one of Europe’s great civilizations while you work toward your Tulane degree in France. Study in the cultural and political capital of Paris, or the vibrant university city at the cross-roads of Europe, Lyon. Both cities are known for their cosmopolitan, international lifestyle. These Tulane Study Abroad Programs (TSAP) are taught in English or by French immersion:

Students in Lyon and the American University of Paris enroll directly at the university abroad. In contrast, the year-long Paris program's Resident Director helps students register for classes at a variety of local colleges. The Lyon and Paris immersion programs begin with an intensive French language course before the start of university classes. All courses, grades, and credits travel back with you to Tulane when you participate in a TSAP.

Where Will I Live?

Students on TSAPs in France have a variety of housing options. All have the option of selecting from different dormitories. Students on the year-long immersion program in Paris live with a host family during the intensive French language program in the city of Angers, and can also choose to live with a host family during their year in Paris.

What Are The Costs?

Studying abroad is affordable. Costs vary by program and student lifestyle. Because students on TSAPs pay Tulane University tuition for their studies abroad, most Tulane and federal financial aid applies. Below is an average of the per-semester cost for the 2005-06 year to help you with your budgeting (based on the conversion rate $1.25 = 1 Euro):

Students are billed through Tulane for tuition and the Academic Support Service Fee, as well as the required International Evacuation Insurance. In addition, students on Paris immersion program are billed through Tulane for the $1400 activity fee and may also be billed through Tulane for housing, depending on which option they choose. Students pay all other costs directly as they occur.

* Living costs vary widely and include housing, meals, books, round-trip airfare from New Orleans, health and evacuation insurance, passport, visa, and personal expenses. They do not include vacation travel.

How Do I Apply?

Begin the process well in advance of the year or semester you plan to study abroad. Deadlines vary greatly, starting with the submission of your online TSAP application:

Some programs fill up before the deadline so you are strongly advised to submit your application early to increase your chances of being accepted.

A complete application includes a statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation from Tulane faculty, one photo and a $50 non-refundable deposit. After submitting their online application, students on immersion programs will also be instructed on setting up a language interview. Late or incomplete applications will be rejected.

Upon conditional acceptance from the CIS, you will submit an application to the host program abroad. Final acceptance to study abroad is contingent upon this application and your ability to maintain the above eligibility requirements through the semester before departure.
