The Basics..
Tulane University students have the exceptional opportunity
to study at two world-class universities in Australia. Whether
you choose to study in Perth or Sydney, you will enjoy the
benefits of living in a lively regional capital as you work
towards your Tulane degree in engineering or the liberal arts
and sciences. Courses, grades, and credits travel back with
you to Tulane when you participate in a Tulane Study Abroad
Program (TSAP):

In addition to housing the Center for Aboriginal Studies,
Curtin offers outstanding service learning
opportunities. It is the largest university in Western
Australia, with over 31,000 students. As the major city on
Australia’s west coast, Perth has a
population of over 1 million and offers all the amenities of
living in a capital city while being friendly and within easy
reach of the beach and the Outback.
Located on Australia’s east coast, the University of
Sydney is larger still, boasting 47,000
students in a city of 4 million. The city is a busy
international center, with immigrants making up over one third
of its population. The oldest settlement in Australia, Sydney
is connected by rail to cities like Melbourne, Brisbane, and
Canberra.
When Can I Go?
You can study in Australia for a semester or year. Note
that the Australian school year runs opposite to Tulane’s:

More detailed information is available at the university
websites. Where Do I Live?
Both Australian universities have a wide variety of
on-campus living options, including singles
or doubles in apartment-style dormitories. Students on TSAPs
arrange their housing directly with the university abroad.
What Are The Costs?
Studying abroad is affordable. Costs vary by program and
student lifestyle. Because students on TSAPs pay Tulane
University tuition for their studies abroad, most Tulane and
federal financial aid applies. Below is an average of the
per-semester cost for the 2005-06 year to
help you with your budgeting:

~ The cost of Tulane tuition for 2006-07 has yet to be
determined. For all TSAPs, students are billed through Tulane
for tuition and the Academic Support Service Fee in addition
to the required International Emergency Evacuation Insurance.
Students pay all other costs directly as they occur.
* Living costs vary widely and include housing, meals,
books, round-trip airfare from New Orleans, health and
evacuation insurance, passport, visa, and personal expenses.
They do not include vacation travel.

How Do I Apply?
Begin the process well in advance of the year or semester
you plan to study abroad. Deadlines vary depending on the host
institution’s deadlines and admissions policies. Start with
the submission of your online TSAP
application:

Some programs fill up before the deadline so you are
strongly advised to submit your application early to increase
your chances of being accepted.
A complete application includes a statement of purpose, two
letters of recommendation from Tulane faculty, one photo and a
$50 non-refundable deposit. Late or incomplete
applications will be rejected.
Upon conditional acceptance from the Center for
International Studies, you will submit an application to the
host program abroad. Final acceptance to
study abroad is contingent upon this application and your
ability to maintain the above eligibility requirements through
the semester before departure.
