Help for Student Victims of Hurricanes

Current Challenges and Resources

Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, up to 100,000 college students have relocated to institutions around the country and abroad. If you are a student who has been displaced by Hurricane Katrina, The Center for Global Education at Loyola Marymount University has created this resource to assist you with the challenges you may be facing as you decide where to go from here.

Hopefully you were able to enroll in classes at another institution this semester in order to continue your education. If you did not attend school, hopefully next semester you can proceed with your studies. Whatever your situation may be, you have a variety of directions to go in. When thinking about the next step, it is important to research options and find resources that can help make it happen. Whether you are able to return to your home and your home institution, remain at your current school, or choose a third possibility, resources and information are provided for you in this site.

Wherever you are, deciding how and where to continue your education may be influenced by a variety of issues including your family, finances, and feelings about the changes that have happened in your life due to Katrina. Please refer to the suggestions and resources provided in this section around those issues and beyond. You can then move on to the specific sections on your educational options and then how proceed accordingly. We hope that this site will be of help to you.
