Help for Student Victims of Hurricanes

Special Help from California Community Colleges

California Community Colleges are committed to helping those affected
by Hurricane Katrina in many ways.

Fundraising: A special fund-raising effort has begun with the
leadership of Hartnell College President Ed Valeau and Fresno City College President Ned Doffoney (both are originally from Louisiana), with the support of Mark Drummond, the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. The goal is to have California colleges donate at least $1,090,000 (representing an average of $10,000 from each of the 109 colleges) towards the relief effort.

Other Efforts: Understanding that victims of the Hurricane who have
been displaced may not be able to return to their homes for a long time, it is important that those who have been displaced understand the help that community colleges can provide as a place to go to further their education, their career, and their future.
