This meeting, supported by the California Study Abroad Council and hosted by the Office on International Programs at Whittier College, will focus on expanding collaboration for study abroad across colleges and universities in California, including a focus on ways to support consistent health and safety practices when sharing programs, with a special focus on the recent US Department of State Travel Warning for Mexico and its impact on study abroad programs there.
Through support from sponsors Southern California Consortium on International Studies (SOCCIS), HTH Worldwide, and Renaissance Insurance Agencies, Inc., there is no cost to attend and continental breakfast and lunch will be provided to attendees. April 9, 2010: Health and Safety Workshop for Short-Term Study Abroad Programs - Faculty Director Training, Madison, Wisconsin - Leading Abroad: Preparing Community and Technical College Faculty in Best Practices in Health, Safety, and International Education Program Development
The Madison Area Technical College invites participants to a health and safety training workshop focusing on faculty-led study abroad programs at community colleges. This training workshop is aimed at helping community college faculty and international education staff become better prepared to address health and safety risks when leading short term study abroad programs. The program is recommended for current and prospective faculty program leaders, international education office staff, student services staff working with travel programs, and deans and other administrators with international education programs in their departments.
When: Friday, April 9, 2010, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Where: Madison Area Technical College, Downtown Education Center (211 N. Carroll St, Madison, WI)
This workshop is being offered free of charge (including lunch) as part of an effort to share best practices and expand the capacity of community colleges to be able to offer quality faculty-led programs abroad. Funding support was provided by the Department of Education Title VI Undergraduate International Studies and Foreign Language (UISFL) program and the Wisconsin Technical College System Leadership Grant program.
